FAQ for business customers

^

Is the tuning software visible after flashing of the ecu?

No. The software is not visible, but it is clear that the tuning will be noticed when the car is tested in a dyno. The diagnostic function is also working after flashing, so the dealer may work with their diagnostic systems in the car

^

Can my car be tuned over the diagnostic port?

Check out our car list for a complete overview of the cars we flash over the diagnostic port

^

Can my car get the original software back?

Yes. As long as we are able to read and write new tuned software, will we also be able to re-flash back the original software. We keep a copy of your original software when we flash new tuned software to the ecu.

^

How secure is it to flash new software to the ecu?

Flashing new software into the ecu, is the most secure way of getting new software into the ecu. Our flashing is like the manufacturer writes new software – but we flash more optimised software than the manufacturer does. Our tuned software will only change the necessary parameters for getting the car to give more power. OptiCan and our software do though change more parameters than other tuning software – just because we are able to do it. This means that our software is more secure than other types of tuning software or tuning methods

^

Does the engine get any warmer than normal?

The oil temperature will increase by about 2-5 degrees.

^

Does the car get a shorter life after tuning?

Our tuning do not compromise the durability of the engine. We have made all our tuning software within the norms that the manufacturers are setting. Of course is it important that the user is not “abusing” the car when it is used.

^

Do I need to change the brakes?

With our standard tuning files you do not need to change the breaks. Of course will it be better always to have better breaks, but if the change in power only is about 20-30% you normally do not need to change the breaks.

^

I have automatic gear – what then?

Our software can be used for all kind of gear types. The software will be made for the specific car, and the gear ratios will be taken care off. An automatic gear type has also a special ecu only for the gear, and this will also automatically fit itself to the new settings in the tuned software.

^

How long time do I have warranty on the OptiCan Flasher electronically box?

You have 2 year warranty on the electronically system we provide.

^

What means 'Flash'?

'Flash' means rewrite new software in the ecu over the diagnostic port – OBDII port.

^

What does it mean 'Complete read'?

'Complete read' means that we may read out the complete software in the ecu over the OBDII port.

^

What does it mean 'Complete write'?

'Complete write' means that we may write complete new software to the ecu over the OBDII port

^

Is it possible to update the software over the internet?

YES

^

Which cars is possible to flash?

See the complete list on our web site ( ). We add new cars to this list all the time

^

What does it mean 'Make ID'?

'Make ID' option allows us to read important information in the ecu, like VIN #, ecu’s and chip’s type and software version

^

Is there any need to remove any fuses from the car before OptiCan flasher usage?

NO – of course not

^

How important is the Voltage on the car being flashed?

It is VERY important to follow the instructions – we recommend that you always have at least 13V on the car that is being flashed.

^

Why does the READ operation not start sometimes?

There could be several reasons of this problem:

  • The car you try to read is not listed in our system yet

  • Or you don’t have enough Voltage on the car you

  • Don’t have all cables connected correctly.

^

Check the cars list first – then check all connections including the power supply to the car.

Some cars have a power controller, which means that you will not be able to use a normal battery charger to supply the needed 13V. In this case make sure you use an intelligent Power Supply instead of normal Battery Charger.

^

The READ doesn’t start the first time. What should I do?

Depending on the car and ecu, just try once more. Sometimes you should disconnect all cables and start over again.

^

The WRITE doesn’t start. What should I do?

Sometimes there is not possible to do the ID before WRITING – disconnect all cables and start the software again. Go directly to WRITE – do not use ID first.

^

Can I make my own tuning files?

Yes, you will be able to map your own files in software like WinOls if you have the Master version of OptiCan Flasher. You would need the OptiCan Master version in order to read open BIN files from the ecu if you want to use third party software to remap the software.

^

Can I make my own tuning files?

Yes, you will be able to map your own files in software like WinOls if you have the Master version of OptiCan Flasher. You would need the OptiCan Master version in order to read open BIN files from the ecu if you want to use third party software to remap the software.

^

Can I buy files from the database if I have the Master version of OptiCan Flasher?

Yes of course, but we recommend you to save the stock software as PAK file (slave file) and then order a TUN file from the database to save your money. The prices of Master files are sky high compared to the price of TUN files.

^

What is the main difference between Master and Slave versions of OptiCan Flasher?

Master is an open version where you are able to read and write your own remapped files. Slave version is a closed system where you are able to use the files from our database only.

^

What are the prices for an OptiCan Flasher system?

Check our web sites and distributor/dealers in your area for the prices of Master’s and Slave’s versions of OptiCan Flasher.

^

Does the OptiCan Flasher supply checksums in the files?

YES of course. The checksums are integrated in the OptiCan Flasher system in most of the ecu’s we have available in the OptiCan system. Check each ecu before remapping.

^

Do I need to update the software on my computer from time to time?

YES – in order to have the latest ecu’s available in the system it’s very important to update the software both for the computer and the hardware of the OptiCan Flasher. We launch new versions of software almost every week.

^

What are the important functions of the OptiCan Flasher?

OptiCan Flasher reads and writes everything possible to read and write in the ecu. OptiCan Flasher has connection status. OptiCan Flasher has ID for all the launched cars. OptiCan Flasher software works with all the latest Windows systems. Computer needs are at least: PC Pentium, 1024 MB ram, 100 MB free on the HDD, USB v.2.0 Software could be updates through Internet. You do not need any license update codes in the software – this is regulated in the OptiCan box. OptiCan Flasher box uses power from USB and OBDII port. OptiCan Flasher could be used both with OBDII and EOBD ports. OptiCan Flasher has 4 LED lights for usage control. OptiCan Flasher uses such communication norms as: CAN 1.2 , CAN 2.0 , Dual CAN 2.0 , BDM , JATG IEEE 1149.1 , K-Bus , L-Line , PWM , RS232 and VPM OptiCan Flasher has no key or counters that restrict the use of the tool. OptiCan Flasher measures are: 160x83x21 mm

^

What should I do to start using OptiCan Flasher?

Install the software – downloaded from our web site (www.obdtuning.com) When start to use the system, it is important that you start the computer software before connecting the OptiCan with the USB cable. Connect the OptiCan Flasher to the computer with the USB cable. The system will check the serial number of the OptiCan box. When this check is accepted, you will see that the cars on the left side in the software are going from yellow (locked) to white (open). The system is ready to choose the car.

Connect the OptiCan box to the computer, Connect the OptiCan to the OBD port in the car (make sure that you also have connected a power supply to the car - the OptiCan Flasher system needs between 13,2 and 13,6V for flashing new software to the ecu.) NOTE: Do not use a normal battery charger – make sure you have a good power supply, with technical specification more or less equal the power supply we recommend : http://www.optican.net/downloads/Elektron-Bremen%20HS-1000.pdf Make sure that the Ignition is on in the car while you read and write. Go to the computer and choose the car, model and ecu. Make ID in order to see the important information of the ecu. Go to READ. (there will be a green bar under the software window that will keep you informed about the progress.) Save the software on your local computer as a PAK file (slave version) or as a BIN file (master version) after the READ. All files should be saved in a dedicated directory where you easy can find them again. Often is it good to save like this: c:/MyDocuments/OptiCanFiles/CARTYPE/CAROWNER Go to the web administration using your user and password: choose payment method – you have to have a debit account ready, where you may upload money using PAY PAL choose car brand, model, engine and ecu type. upload your PAK file to the database. receive an email from the database within minutes, which will tell you either where to download the TUN software or it will tell you that we need to remap the file manually. When the file is ready and placed into the database, you will be able to download the TUN software from the database. Save this TUN software on your local computer,

You are ready to write the software into the car.

  • Open the Flasher software again

  • Let the system do the serial number check again

  • Choose the car in the software and go for ID again.

  • When this is done choose WRITE.

  • Now you will be able to choose the file to write into the ecu

  • Choose either the TUN file or the PAK file for writing. (TUN is tuned software and PAK is the stock software.)

  • After the write is successful, you need to follow the instructions coming on the screen. On some vehicles will you also be able to reset error codes directly.

  • Write as many times as you like in the same car – all software is dedicated to the specific car you are working on.

NB! You will not be able to use the software from one car in another car.

There will be a red progress bar below the software window during the WRITE. Follow the instructions on your computer after the WRITE. After that the car is ready to start and drive in a tuned mode.
